Join Us for the “My Letter to Fear” Reading!

Testad2 copyI’ve been absent lately, but I have a very nearly good reason for it.

My producing partner, Danielle Turchiano, and I are in the midst of putting together a showcase for My Letter to Fear: Essays on Life, Love and the Search for Prince Charming. It’s September 20th at 3:00pm here in LA.  If you’ve read the book, you know that the book is based on not only my personal experiences, but interviews I did with women of all ages about aging, abuse, addiction, celebrity, confidence, beauty myths and relationships. It’s funny, sad and, hopefully, relatable.

You know what this means, right? It means that you all have plenty of time to reserve free tickets to the show: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/827985  It also means that you can still get decent air fares on flights should you currently reside outside of California, but need to get to West Hollywood on the 20th.  I’m kidding. You don’t have to fly. You can drive or take a train. That’s totally up to you.

Why am I doing this when I typically shun the spotlight? I could blame sudden onset social madness, but that would not be entirely true.  One of the reasons is that I need to increase my “profile” as a writer. Publishing… screenwriting… whatever writing—it’s all a business and each piece is struggling for an audience in a sea of other voices, noises, opportunities, etc.  We wanted a way to bring this work to life.

The second reason is that I think there are ideas covered in the book that need to be discussed. I like the idea of starting that conversation, but I need more people to join in. The event is our way giving that conversation a little nudge.

Who is doing it? We can tell you that Nikki DeLoach (Awkward.), Lesley Fera (Pretty Little Liars), Jen Lilley (Days of our Lives) and Julie McNiven (Supernatural) have all been announced, and more people are joining the cast as we start to see schedules align.  I can’t tell you how much I love that these amazing women are lending their talents to my writing. Frankly, I get a little giddy every time I think about it.  UPDATE: The fabulous Roma Maffia from Pretty Little Liars and Nip/Tuck has just joined the cast!

What do you need to do?  Join us at the event and/or tell other people about the event.  Like I said, the tickets are free, and the event is casual. I’ll be there. I’ll even try not to hide behind any potted plants in the lobby.
